Peace through Silence in the Wake of the Charlottesville Protest’s Second Anniversary

The Quaker’s were at the forefront of the counter protesters in the Charlottesville Riots; they stood tall against the violence and hate in complete silence. Today, noviolence founder, Jack Strickland, visited a session to see what it was like. A calm, peaceful experience centered around silence and fellowship. The Quaker culture is one of peace since their creation in the 17th century. They didn’t believe in war and have always been pacifists. They see the evil in human nature and strive to fight it for a peaceful outcome, and yet, they were in the violent chaos of Charlottesville on August 12th. Why? They want to create change, and they want to do it in a nonviolent manner. Many of their core principals are along the basic lines of nonviolence and love that we here at noviolence.org strive for all over the globe.
